David Kwiatkowski earned a BSc from Caltech in 1972 and a PhD from MIT in 1975, both in Mathematics. He received his MD degree from Columbia University in 1979. He pursued Internal Medicine and then Hematology-Oncology training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1979-1984. Dr. Kwiatkowski has specialized in thoracic oncology for the past 30 years. He began a medical research career in cell biology, became self-trained in human genetics, and developed a research program in human genetics focusing on tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).  He has been the leader of the Dana Farber Harvard Cancer Center Cancer Genetics program for the past 6 years, and is an active member of several TCGA working groups.  His current translational research interests are therapeutic development in all cancers in which there is activation of the mTOR pathway, due to mutations in key regulatory genes.
