Biography
Dr. Mayer received his MD from Harvard Medical School in 1969, and postgraduate training in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City. After fellowships in hematology and oncology at the National Cancer Institute and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, he joined Dana-Farber in 1974.
In 1997, he was president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Mayer currently serves as vice chair for academic affairs in Dana-Farber's Department of Medical Oncology, director of Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare's Fellowship Training Program in Hematology and Medical Oncology, and director of Dana-Farber's Center for Gastrointestinal Oncology.
